Minnesota had a weekend to remember when it came to the weather.

A weather station in the Boundary Waters recorded a temperature of 50 degrees below zero on Saturday.  This was a record low for Minnesota for Feb. 13. The previous record statewide for the Feb. 13 was 42 below zero set in Grand Rapids in 1916.

Officials say the 50-below zero temperature was recorded at a station east of Ely.  Other locations in northern Minnesota saw overnight low temperatures in the 40 below zero range.

Warmer temperatures are expected for the rest of the week ahead as the worst of the cold is now behind us.
