Law enforcement in Willmar reportedly used a Taser stun gun against a 40-year-old Willmar woman Wednesday after a verbal de-escalation techniques did not work.

According to Willmar police, officers were asked to do a welfare check on the woman after being contacted by an acquaintance of the woman.  They told law enforcement the woman was reporting suicidal thoughts and the acquaintance could no longer reach her.

Officers responded to the woman’s residence on the 600 block of Second Street Southwest where they found the woman.

According to the officials, while officers were talking to her, she produced a knife and held it to her neck.  Officers used verbal de-escalation techniques. When the woman did not respond to de-escalation or comply, officers use a Taser to incapacitate the woman,

The woman was taken to Carris Health-Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for a mental health evaluation.
