Gov. Tim Walz says he plans to deploy the Minnesota National Guard at the state Capitol.

Walz says the move is intended to protect against potential threats to the state Capitol ahead of President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration.

Walz says that troops will be activated for several days. The moves comes after a Dec. 29 FBI memo warning of threats to the Minnesota and Michigan state capitols for this weekend.

The governor also reportedly got a briefing from law enforcement officials.

Tensions have been on the rise across the nation as Republicans believe there was election fraud. Democrats contend it was a fair election with Biden winning the election.
