The Minnesota Vikings have claimed linebacker Ryan Connelly off waivers from the New York Giants.

Connelly, who is from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, was drafted by the Giants out of Wisconsin in the fifth round in 2019.  He started three games for the Giants last year before a season-ending knee injury. He had 20 tackles, one sack and two interceptions in four games.

One reason why Chisena might have been given a look as a defensive back was a lack of depth at safety for the Vikings.

Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer says more roster shuffling could take place in advance of the season opener on Sunday against Green Bay.
