Prosecutors are upgrading the charges against a former Minneapolis police officer to second-degree murder, in connection to the death of George Floyd.

Floyd died on Memorial Day after the officer put his knee on Floyd’s neck.

The officer, Derek Chauvin, was fired May 26 and initially charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

Three other officers were also fired but weren't immediately charged.  Attorney General Keith Ellison is now charging the other officers with aiding and abetting murder.

Floyd’s death has sparked violent protests in the Twin Cities and across the nation.
