The former Minneapolis police officer who was seen on video kneeling on the neck of George Floyd, was charged Friday in connection to his death.

State prosecutors have charged Derkek Chauvin with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Minnesota’s sentencing guidelines recommend 12 1/2 years for a conviction on the murder count and four years on the manslaughter charge.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said more charges are possible in the case.

Floyd's death has sparked riots, looting, and arson fires.  In one case, a Minneapolis police precinct was set on fire Thursday night and destroyed.
