A firefighter reportedly helped save the life of a 2-year-old found face-down in the water on Sunday on a lake in Otter Tail County.

According to officials, a family member realized the child was not inside a residence on Sand Lake, north of Pelican Rapids.  A search was made and the child's father found the boy face-down in the water near the shore.

A member of the visiting family, a 42-year-old firefighter in South Dakota, immediately began CPR/life saving efforts to the young child while his 16-year-old daughter called 911.

The firefighter performed life-saving care for about one minute before the child began to breathe again, prior to the arrival of local first responders.

The child was taken to an area hospital.
