Two felony charges have been dismissed against a west central Minnesota man who was accused of having sexual contact with a child.

The assistant Chippewa county attorney filed a dismissal of complaint July 22nd in Chippewa County District Court for the felony charges against Matthew Richard Regnier, 36, of Clara City.

Regnier had been charged earlier this year with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct for sexual penetration with a minor.

He was accused in the criminal complaint of having sexual contact with a young girl in 2021, beginning when she was 9 years old and continuing after she had turned 10.

According to court documents, the complaint was reportedly dismissed as the prosecuting attorney was likely unable to meet the burden of proof at trial.
