A felony assault charge against a west central man was dismissed on Thursday.  The man, Judd Hoff of Alexandria, is currently in prison after he was found guilty of a separate assault.

The charge of felony second-degree assault was dismissed against Hoff for the reason of "prosecutorial discretion." This is one of the powers a prosecuting attorney has, along with choosing whether or not to bring criminal charges.

The charge carried a maximum sentence of seven years imprisonment and/or a $14,000 fine  The charge stemmed from an incident that took place in September 2020.

Last fall, Hoff was sentenced to 13 months in prison in St. Cloud for one count of felony second degree assault charge back in August 2020 involving a machete.
