The Minnesota Vikings ownership has fired head coach Mike Zimmer and GM Rick Spielman.

The moves came on Monday morning on what is known as "Black Monday" around the NFL when coaches and other personnel are fired at the close of the season.

The Vikings missed the playoffs for the second consecutive year, and have missed the playoffs the past three out of four seasons.

The Vikings beat the Chicago Bears 31-17 on Sunday to close out the season.  The win, however, wasn't enough and the Wilf family decided to make a move.

Zimmer took over as head coach in 2014. He ranks third all-time in franchise history in wins with 72 victories behind Bud Grant and Dennis Grant.

The search now begins to fill the head coach and the GM positions for the Vikings.
